Joy Melinda Clark

Joy Clark was born in Namibia, South Africa, in 1958.  She worked as a Lay-out Artist in various Printing companies, until she decided to set up her own Ceramic Studio in Richards Bay, Zululand, KZN, S.A., which was very successful for 25 years.  Her Ceramic work was shown at Annual Exhibitions in Kwambonambi & Richards Bay & Durban.  Throughout the years there has always been a keen interest in all art forms as well as Sewing, Bear-making & Quilting.  She spent a few years teaching Bear-making Skills and is still teaching Quilting.

After a series of Art Courses and Workshops with tremendous encouragement & support from various teachers Joy was fully devoted to painting for many years, her favorite medium being oil paint, and she enjoys acrylic paint due to the texture achieved with palette knife and impasto technique.  She has partaken in a number of Group Exhibitions in Port Shepstone and Richards Bay and Kwambonambi in KZN and Port Elizabeth, and has won a number of prizes in various shows.

Whether painting or quilting, she is on a continuous path of learning and experimenting with color and technique.  Joy is influenced by the sound of the sea & the visual impact of the beauty of her surroundings in Kini Bay in the Eastern Cape where she lives.  She enjoys painting Still Life, Flower Studies, Landscape, Seascapes and does Portraits on Commission (from photographs).  Her aim in all things is to 'do what you do well'.

Occasionally she chooses a painting of one of the old Masters to reproduce in an endevour to learn from those wonderful Artists of yesteryear. All paintings on this site have been done between 2009 and 2013 and most of them have been sold.

For the moment she has her hands full with developing her skills in Quilting.  So no more paintings for now...

Joy's quilting journey has turned into full time Quilting Teacher after having completed the SAQG Teachers Accreditation Course in 2016.
